A few weeks before he died, Vincent van Gogh shared one of his utmost ambitions with his brother Theo:
"One day or another, I believe I shall find a way of having an exhibition of my own in a café",
he wrote while staying at the Ravoux Inn.
Although he went down in posterity as one of the world's greatest artists, he was never granted this modest wish.
For the past twenty years, we at the
Institut Van Gogh have made it our mission to achieve
Vincent van Gogh's Dream: exhibit one of his paintings in his last café.
We already have the natural "frame" for such a painting:
Van Gogh's last room at the Ravoux Inn, the café where he spent his final days in Auvers-sur-Oise (France).
To complete the frame, we now want to purchase one of his
masterpieces and return it to the very room where the canvas once dried.
In order to do so, in October 2007 we launched a
worldwide fundraising campaign, directed at all those who wish to contribute to
Van Gogh's Dream.
With
your help a Van Gogh painting might soon be exhibited for everyone to see and enjoy in Auvers-sur-Oise… and from their
own home !.
Join this dream and help us purchase a Van Gogh masterpiece !
